Champagne Cocktail – Harry’s New York Bar Version
I had the fortune of visiting Paris this past summer and made a point of seeking out the venerable classic, Harry’s New York Bar. It was everything I’d hoped it would be and when pressed, I ordered their version of the Champagne Cocktail. It was early and my family were waiting at a cafe to head to yet another destination so I wanted something light.
The version is a slight variation of what is in the bar’s own cocktail book, in that my bartender added Benedictine:
1 Sugar cube
Angostura
5 drops Cognac
2 drops Benedictine
Champagne
Lemon Twist
As per usual, soak the sugar cube in Angostura bitters at the base of a chilled flute, then add the Cognac and Benedictine. Top with Champagne, ideally, but sparkling wine works too. Simply and totally incredible.
